Tuesday, June 26 The Discovery Museums The Discovery Museums, 177 Main St., Acton. Tuesday, June 26, 11 a.m. In a program on the Small Radio Telescope, participants see a seven-foot telescope, and learn how radio astronomical observations are used to study emissions from the Sun and the Milky Way from the MIT Haystack Observatory. Registrations are now being accepted for a new children’s theatre group, ”Theatre in the Park,” with a four-week session offered beginning in July. This new theatre program will present a full production show at completion, “Treasure Island, A Musical Adventure,” by Jeanne Bargy and Jim Eler. Art Exhibits The Arts Committee of the Acton Memorial Library has picked the artists who will exhibit in the Library's Meeting Room for the 2007-2008 season. The artists have been allowed to keep their works on display for two months. This extended period insures the greatest number of viewers. The exception is March because the month of April has been set aside for an exhibition from the Acton Boxboro High School. The artists are chosen through a jury process in early March. A call for work is published in late January for a March 1 deadline. Summer Programs Discovery Museums, Acton. Summer programs at The Discovery Museums are designed to reflect the developmental abilities and interests of specific age groups. Summer Discoveries, for the younger child, is taught by educators at the Children’s Discovery Museum. Summer Scientists is taught by educators at the Science Discovery Museum, reflecting the older child’s capabilities and cognitive thinking level. Acton Town Hall, Room 46. Second Thursday of the
month, 7 p.m. American Legion, Acton Post 284, meets. Due to the generosity of the Carlisle Cultural Council, residents of Carlisle will receive free admission and other discounts when they visit the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park on the weekend of June 23 and 24. During these Carlisle Town Days at DeCordova, all Carlisle residents will receive: free admission to DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, 5 to10% discounts at the store and café at DeCordova, discount on an annual membership if you sign up this weekend. Residents must show proof of residency, such as a driver's license, at DeCordova's visitor's station. On Saturday at 1 p.m., residents can explore the sculpture park with a museum guide. On Sunday, a tour of sculpture park will be held at 1 p.m. and immediately following, at 2 p.m., a tour of the main galleries will be given by a museum guide. These events are free to Carlisle residents on June 23 and 24. Eagle Scout Court of Honor June 24 On Sunday, June 24 at 3 p.m. in the Corey Auditorium, Carlisle Boy Scout Troop 135 will hold an Eagle Scout Court of Honor for its newest Eagle Scouts: Oliver Bojanic, Basil Bourque, Evan Carpenito, Timothy Galligan, Peter Stone and David Tobin.Members of the community and fellow Eagle Scouts are invited to attend as these young men receive the Boy Scouts of America's highest honor. David Polansky to perform June 27 As part of the Gleason Public Library's Summer Reading Program, children going into grades K-6 are invited to "Catch the Beat" with award winning composer David Polansky. Expect singing, dancing and a great deal of action as David performs a variety of original songs in a fun-filled program that encourages audience participation. Come to Union Hall on Wednesday, June 27 at 7 p.m. for this catchy performance. This program is supported by a grant from the Carlisle cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural council, a state agency. The CCHS Class of 1975 Reunion weekend includes a get together with classmate on Friday, June 29, 6 p.m. to whenever at Papa Razzi’s in Concord, the old HoJos; an outdoor barbecue on Saturday, June 30, under the tent at Kimballs with use of driving range, pitch and putt golf course, miniature golf course, bumper boats, horseshoes, volleyball and unlimited Kimballs ice cream. The Class of ’75 party will be held Saturday, a fun filled evening with beer and wine, endless hors d’oeuvres, a narrated slide show, hours of laughter, an open mic, and prizes for the best CCHS story and post CCHS story. Sunday morning, July 1, classmates meet for brunch at the Colonial Inn. On Sunday afternoon, the Boston Red Sox are in town taking on the Texas Rangers.
